Bitcoin miners face noise complaints

The good people of Granbury, Texas have had enough (they're not alone).

Adam here.

Bitcoin miners are causing a ruckus in Texas, and it could get a lot worse.

Residents of Granbury, a town not far from Fort Worth, are fed up of the noise caused by local Bitcoin mining operations.

Some say the rising noise levels are causing a slew of health problems, including vertigo, hair loss, and nosebleeds.

Marathon Digital Holdings has been minting the cryptocurrency day and night with about 80,000 fan-cooled computers.

Bitcoin’s next halving, the automated process that cuts the number of coins provided as a reward to miners by half, is expected to happen in April.

As a result, mining companies will have to ratchet up their computing power to compete to mint new Bitcoins.

That means even more noise.

In Texas, the problem is escalating into a major headache for the industry.

The problem isn’t unique to the Lone Star state though.

Complaints about noisy Bitcoin mines have come in from people living in North Carolina, Colorado, Ohio, Tennessee, as well as in Canada and Norway.
