Crypto sees red 🚩

Buterin's politics post turns crypto into election battleground.

GM. Liam here.

This week’s crypto tribalism hit different.

When Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin urged crypto enthusiasts to carefully consider voting for candidates based solely on their stance on crypto, many took it as an affront to presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

In his post, Buterin said voters should look beyond one issue and examine a candidate’s track record over several years — common sense in normal times.

Trump has positioned himself as a crypto bro on the campaign trail.

Biden, on the other hand, is seen as anti-crypto, despite recent cautious overtures to the industry by Democratic politicians.

“Too cute by half,” Jake Chervinsky, chief legal officer at Variant Fund, responded to Buterin’s post.

Yuga Cohler, senior blockchain engineer at Coinbase, wrote a lengthier post on why Buterin is wrong.

Messari CEO’s crusade

These are, of course, not normal times.

Just ask Ryan Selkis, CEO of crypto analytics firm Messari, and arguably the angriest man on the internet.

The assassination attempt on Trump enraged many in the industry.

None more so than Selkis.

“It’s difficult to function right now I am so consumed with rage,” he tweeted after the attack on Trump.

While he raged on X, others piled into memecoins linked to the former president.

Doland Tremp, a Solana-based joke token, jumped 82% after the assassination attempt.

Just remember, it’s not about the money.

Ben Weiss spoke with the Messari CEO about his latest pivot from crypto enthusiast to firebrand political troll.

Painted as a crypto proponent, Commissioner Peirce is done with bros calling her “crypto mom,” report Inbar Preiss and Joanna Wright.

The WazirX hack was one of the year’s most destructive. Security experts already suspect who was behind it, writes Tim Craig.

Post of the week

Looks like members of Selkis’ inner circle have had some words after such a big week.
